Reds can lose in front of Chelsea. Visible targets are “unthinkable” and have a disarm clause that makes any movement difficult. Liverpool lead the league as Christmas approaches.
Is there anything else important at this point? For many Red fans, being at the top of their game at any time of the year is of the utmost importance.
Others will be watching the action at Old Trafford on Tuesday night as Manchester United look to beat Bayern Munich and book a place in the Champions League.
The Red Devils’ form will be interesting ahead of their trip to Anfield on Sunday, but the prospect of them heading to the Europa League will also be interesting for Liverpool fans for obvious reasons.
Ahead of the Premier League clash between the two North West giants, it will be interesting to see who Jurgen Klopp selects for the away game against Union SG. Injuries to key members of the squad could mean more senior players than is ideal.
And with United’s squad somewhat affected by injuries, attention will quickly turn to January and the re-opening of the transfer window.
The transfer gossip surrounding the Reds today.
Ian Maatsen (Chelsea)TEAMtalk (via HITC) report that Chelsea are ready to release players to rebuild their squad, as manager Mauricio Pochettino has demanded.
They say 7 people were scheduled to leave.Left back Jan Maatsen is one of them. The 21-year-old impressed on loan at Burnley last season but has had little chance for the Blues in 2023/24, playing less than 300 minutes so far.
TEAMtalk previously reported that Liverpool were interested in signing the Dutchman. Chelsea, whose contract expires at the end of next season, will need to move Maatsen quickly if they are to collect the fee and Liverpool could be interested again.
Left-back is not an area Liverpool need to sign, but Andy Robertson isn’t getting any younger and Kostas Tsimikas is often left to cheat. The Greeks are not young either. At least not old enough to succeed in this position long term.
Maatsen played at three youth levels in Holland under Ryan Gravenberch and could help boost the Dutch side at Anfield. Making the most of the promising youngster’s contract situation is certainly a move we could see the Reds complete.
Connor Gallagher could also be interesting. He has also been linked with Liverpool and is also expected to be part of the Chelsea Fire sale.
