Liverpool are entering a period where not much can be expected from Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side are beginning to recover and after a comfortable win over Sheffield United, back-to-back games against Newcastle, Burnley, Brentford and Everton are unlikely to be particularly demanding.
Of course, this is Liverpool’s latest title run and neither of these games is a foregone conclusion. Meanwhile, Klopp has personal business to attend to ahead of the New Year’s clash with Newcastle.
However, with the return of Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City’s specter will no doubt be more focused on the United task. The next question is whether Liverpool will use January to strengthen in the transfer window.
Defense in particular appears to be an area that needs attention. There’s a new name on the radar following the smoke screen.
On the defensive side of things, Klopp could look at more versatile options that could help Joe Gomez cover the defensive line with the potential to drop into midfield.
Here’s what Liverpool.com has to say about the transfer gossip surrounding the Reds today.
Nino (Fluminense)Liverpool have been linked with Andre Trindade for months. But Klopp will ultimately look elsewhere this summer as he rebuilds his midfield and the January move is unlikely to go ahead.
But one of Andre’s Copa Libertadores winners could appear behind the smoke screen. Liverpool scouts also appear to have been impressed by centre-back Nino.
According to Fichajes, his release clause is only worth $8 million. Liverpool, Fulham, Roma and Feyenoord are also interested.
Nino, described as Klopp’s ‘keeper’, would be more of a left-wing signing as the 26-year-old has never played outside of Brazil but made his first appearance for his country earlier this year.
