Transfer insider Dean Jones tells GIVEMESPORT his thoughts on how the star compares to other Premier League midfielders.Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have strengthened their options in the center of the park in 2023, but could look to add to their depth further in January as they continue to challenge for the Premier League title.
Liverpool started the 2023/24 season on a positive note, establishing themselves as top title contenders and securing a place in the last 16 of the Europa League after topping their group. The Merseyside giants also reached the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and will face Arsenal in the third round of next year’s FA Cup. Upgrade to Liverpool’s midfieldThe Liverpool midfielder was in urgent need of upgrading after the 2022/2023 season. Manchester United have fallen to 5th place in the Premier League. This means they will miss out on Champions League qualification for the first time since the 207/2018 season and advance to the Europa League.
Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are out of contract at the end of the season, while Arthur Melo returns to Juventus after a disappointing season at Anfield. Meanwhile, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have set their sights on Al Ittihad and Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League. Liverpool therefore had no choice but to start updating their midfield options.
The Reds have added a number of players in the center of the park this season, including Alexis McAllister and Dominic Szoboslay. However, reports that Jurgen Klopp was interested in signing Palhinha have been dismissed. Liverpool are unlikely to sign Joao Palhinha from Fulham during the 2024 winter transfer window at Anfield.
