Sunday’s game between Liverpool and Manchester United will see fans of the Merseyside club sit in the upper seats of the Anfield Road stand for the first time after receiving permission from Liverpool City Council.
Manchester United held a stand testing event on Monday night ahead of next weekend’s Premier League fixture, with local safety advisors giving the green light for the stand to be used at Manchester United matches.
Anfield’s capacity will increase to 57,000, making it Liverpool’s biggest crowd since Bill Shankly’s side drew 0-0 with Leicester City in the old First Division in April 1973.
After the game, the numbers will still fall below the stadium’s total capacity of 4,000, but the extra 7,000 spectators added to the stadium on Sunday will be a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Are Manchester United looking forward to bringing over 57,000 fans to Anfield on Sunday after their biggest attendance in 50 years?
The full stand will be fully open from the new year and the front 12 rows of seats will be available.
Liverpool City Council will meet again in January to consider approving a full safety certificate, which would put an end to all the drama surrounding the stand that erupted at the start of the season.
It’s the perfect game for Liverpool to make their grandstand debut and Redd fans will continue to hope they can go top of the Premier League on Sunday night.
