Liverpool will enter Premier League contention with a 16-year-old who has drawn comparisons to Messi

There will never be another Lionel Messi, but that hasn’t stopped many from comparing 16-year-old Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal to him.The comparison will be Argentina’s best effort against the Catalan giants after the historic teenager scored against Athletic Club in Spain’s Copa del Rey on Wednesday night.

Despite being the youngest player at the San Mamés Stadium, he was a constant thorn in the opposition’s side and was Barcelona’s biggest threat in a match they lost after extra time. The Copa del Rey has been Barcelona’s best opportunity for success this season and Xavi now knows he faces an uphill battle to keep his place.

Barca, under-performing and struggling in the league, have a mountain to climb to beat the teams above them and are nowhere near a major contender for the Champions League.Given Barcelona’s precarious financial situation, this opens up the possibility of selling some of the Catalan club’s biggest stars.

Liverpool are eyeing Yamal as a replacement for Liverpool’s Mo Salah, but he will face stiff competition from Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea, according to Picajes.Joan Laporta may be keen to keep hold of players who could be key to the club’s future success, but the market may say otherwise.
