Liverpool are set to apply pressure in the Premier League title race with a clash with Nottingham Forest on Sunday, but will once again be playing to a reduced crowd at Anfield. Liverpool face millions in damages for ‘sabotage’ at Anfield
According to Athletic, Liverpool will lose millions in revenue as Anfield expansion continues to be delayed. The Reds lost $910,000 (£750,000/€859,000) per match due to continued delays and a lack of seats, with capacity still 11,000 short.
The report cited industry “rumours” that completed parts of the project had suffered minor damage, with the future of previous contractor Buckingham Group facing uncertainty.
Stories of such “sabotage” have not been independently confirmed by The Athletic or Liverpool.com, but it is clear that the original contractor’s descent into administration has caused a number of problems.
A project to increase the capacity of the Anfield Road stand was due to start in 2021, but despite suggestions it could go ahead this season, the project has been delayed following the arrival of the Buckingham Group. It now looks like Jurgen Klopp won’t be at Anfield in large numbers until 2024. Liverpool’s new signing is keen to complete the stand as quickly as possible.
