LIVERPOOL’S FIRST GAME AT 61,000-CAPACITY ANFIELD COULD BE A POTENTIAL TITLE SHOWDOWN

Liverpool have set a date for the redeveloped Anfield Road to finally open to its full capacity and it could be in time for a title-deciding game for the Reds.

As per Alex Miller for the Daily Mail, the construction work is on course to be fully completed by late February or early March.

It would mean that the Reds would welcome the potential title rivals, Manchester City on that particular weekend.

Currently, the recent title challengers have been at it again this season with City in first and Liverpool in second. Moreover, only 1 point separates the two sides, with the Reds traveling to Etihad next weekend.

Liverpool to complete the Anfield Road end work before this season
It’s claimed that there’s ‘an outside chance’ of the works being completed prior to the Reds’ home clash against Luton, currently set for 24 February.

However, they are potentially open to rescheduling this date if Liverpool reach the Carabao Cup final that weekend.

This would mean that the game against Pep’s City would be the more realistic date for a full opening.

Indeed it has been frustrating that the expansion works have taken so long. Moreover, it was originally scheduled for completion by the first home match of this season.

If reports of a March opening are true then it means that roughly two-thirds of the season will have passed with Liverpool unable to play in front of a full Anfield.

However, if the Man City clash is the first fixture after redevelopment, then it would be a momentous occasion.

It would be a huge boost to the Liverpool players with 61,000 people in the stands backing them. Should they win the title, it would be enormous for the whole Anfield crowd then.

However, there is still a significant amount of work left to be done, both on and off the pitch.
