Jurgen Klopp will be troubled by the thought that the South American international may not start due to early selection and the quick transition between international games, but the German could receive some good news ahead of the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

According to This Is Anfield, Liverpool could bring back four players who missed the international break against Brentford, a game the Reds won 3-0.

Two of the players expected to return to Manchester City are centre-backs Joe Gomez and Ibrahim Konate, both of whom were sensational after scoring in the win over Brentford.

Klopp admitted after the game that neither defender suffered a serious injury, but Konate was forced out of Didier Deschamps’ France squad during the international break in November.

However, both players are available for the trip to Manchester, which will be music to Klopp’s ears as he looks to withstand City’s might.

Gomez also gives the Liverpool manager great versatility, allowing him to play centrally or on the left or right of the back four. There is also good news from the midfield.

Alexis McAllister is certain to return from a one-match suspension, but the other two central midfielders could also return if they are fit enough to start after the Argentina tour. One of them is Curtis Jones, who has missed Liverpool’s last three games through injury.

The 22-year-old hasn’t played much football of late, missing three games after picking up a red card against Tottenham. Jones should join Ryan Gravenberg as the Dutchman has missed Liverpool’s last two games with a knee injury.

Klopp has hinted that the midfielder could return after the international break and it looks like he is on track to recover in time for the Manchester City game.

Barring further injuries during international matches, Liverpool will be without Andy Robertson, Stefan Bajcetic, Conor Bradley and Thiago for their first Premier League game in a fortnight.
