In a heartfelt Instagram post, Slovenian guard Luka Rupnik bid farewell to his illustrious basketball career, sharing a poignant message and 19 photos that captured his journey. Among the photos were four snapshots with Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, who has been revealed to be a “good friend” of Rupnik’s.

Rupnik’s emotional post reflected on his life’s passion, writing, “Life has a beautiful way of coming full circle. I began this journey as a five-year-old boy with a ball in my hands and a dream in my heart. Today, I’m writing these words with that same love for the game still burning inside me, but now with a lifetime of memories behind me, I’m announcing that this is my last season as a professional basketball player.”

Reacting to the news of Rupnik’s retirement, Doncic reshared the post on Instagram, showing his support and admiration for his fellow Slovenian guard. The two players have a known friendship, highlighted in a 2020 article by The Athletic.

Rupnik’s career spans multiple international competitions, including EuroBasket, World Cup, and the Olympics. He began representing the Slovenian National Team in 2008 as part of the U16 club and went on to make numerous appearances for the Senior National Team from 2011 to 2023. In those contests, Rupnik averaged 4.2 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists (via FIBA).

Doncic’s Own Achievements

Meanwhile, Luka Doncic continues to shine in his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks. Since debuting as a 19-year-old rookie in 2018, Doncic has emerged as the face of the franchise, averaging 28.6 points and making five All-NBA teams. He has also won a scoring title and has been instrumental in the team’s success.
