Man United are now falling behind Liverpool in the race to sign this £51m right-winger: Will it be a big miss for Ten Hag?

Recent reports suggest that Manchester United are interested in Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo, but Liverpool are currently the most likely to sign him.Takefusa Kubo joined Real Sociedad in 2022 from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Villarreal and Mallorca and the 22-year-old has since made 69 appearances in all competitions.

 

This season, Kubo has 6 goals and 3 assists in 18 La Liga games and is currently playing for Japan in the Asian Cup. Manchester United have been targeting the 22-year-old for some time as Erik ten Hag looks for a new right-back, but it looks like Liverpool have stepped up.

Liverpool approached Sociedad about a potential move before the start of the January transfer window, but the winger has made it clear he wants to stay in Spain for now. However, Liverpool are still being linked with the La Liga club, notably for a £51m fee.

The midfielder scored 9 goals in 44 games last season and not only has he scored 6 goals this season, but his performance has also improved considerably.

Jurgen Klopp is set to leave this summer and a number of first-team players could leave with him. Mo Salah is a name to leave in the summer and someone like Takefusa Kubo could replace him if the Egyptian heads for the exit.

But the Japan international was once rejected by Liverpool and the only way he will agree to join next season is if he is guaranteed game time.

Manchester United will not lose hope. Anthony could be sacked in the summer and if the Brazilian leaves, a player like Kovu could easily come in and take his place.

A transfer fee of £51 million will not be a problem for United, but what is most important to them is securing top European football next season. If the Japanese player maintains his good form for the rest of the season, he will qualify for UCL football and if United finish outside the top four, there will be no chance.
