However, another Spanish source, Nacional, are reporting (via Paisley Gates) that Liverpool are close to signing the 22-year-old centre-back.

The Catalan press agency claim the Merseysiders are ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the race to secure Inácio, who could leave the Lions in the January transfer window.

The Selecao defender signed a new contract in August, which includes a £52.5m release clause that must be triggered midway through the campaign to complete the deal.

In addition, Erik Ten Hag will have to shore up a shaky defensive line after injuries to key players like Martinez and Shaw.

Unfortunately, Varane, Lindelof and Maguire are past their prime and Manchester United will need a young star like Inacio to lead the defense for years to come.

With Inacio coming in, Ten Hag will have to be at their best to beat Liverpool. Do you think Man Utd should activate the £52.5m deal?
