John Aldridge discusses Manchester United’s demise in the second part of his weekly Liverpool column.
Away from Anfield, it was another poor weekend for rivals Manchester United. They have fallen off a cliff, losing half of their first 10 Premier League games. I didn’t see them getting close to Manchester City on Sunday. That was evident at Old Trafford.
There were times when some teams wanted a result and a draw would have been better for us, but United were miles away from that and never looked like scoring. They are going through a very difficult time.
Liverpool’s point of view put a smile on my face. Will Tottenham continue to explode? Arsenal look strong. But he will return to City. If you’re going to give someone else a chance, you have to hope they can be wrong. Only then can other teams step forward.
One thing is clear. Eric Ten Haag’s honeymoon is over. In the opening press conference, he declared “an era is coming to an end”, referring to the dominance of Manchester City and Liverpool in recent years. If you make such a claim, you must justify it.
