Premier League are already getting stuck into the transfer action ahead of this Friday’s opening date.
Euro 2024 is now just days away and the tournament will allow some of the world’s biggest stars to showcase their abilities in the highly-anticipated tournament. The first match will get underway on Friday, which will also mark the day the summer transfer window opens for business.
Premier League clubs have already been eyeing up their first moves on the market and we’re in for a very busy and entertaining window. Liverpool are expected to be particularly active as they prepare for their new era under the management of Arne Slot. The departure of Jurgen Klopp has sparked a lot of rumours over who could be coming in and leaving the club, especially with new sporting director Richard Hughes in the picture, as well as the return of Michael Edwards.
Everton are currently opening talks with potential new investors after the takeover attempt by 777 Partners collapsed. Like their neighbours and rivals, the Toffees are headed for a new era and fans are expecting significant change following another relegation-threatened season.
Some of Everton’s key players including Jarrad Branthwaite have attracted significant attention this year and their summer will likely consist of the club negotiating big money fees. But while the Merseyside outfits consider their options, other clubs have already made moves. According to Fabrizio Romano, two Premier League deals are expected to be ‘signed today’ with ‘medicals completed for both’.
Portugal international Rodrigo Gomes is set to be announced as a Wolves player following a €15 million (£13m) agreement with Braga for a five-year contract. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan with Estoril Praia and contributed nine goals and eight assists across all competitions. Gomes is naturally a right-back by trade but has played in midfield and on the wing in both the left and right positions.
West Ham have also signed 18-year-old midfielder Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras in an initial €23 million deal, plus an extra €7 million in add-ons (£25m combined). The Brazilian will also have a 20 percent sell-on clause included in his contract. The versatile winger is an attractive target, as he can play on either side of the attack as well as in the No.9 position.
Both Guilherme and Gomes have reportedly completed their medicals and they will put pen to paper for their respective new clubs today.
The summer transfer window for Premier League clubs opens on Friday and will remain open until Friday, August 30 at 11pm. The decision to close the window on August 30 came after talks with the EFL, DFL, Serie A, LaLiga, and LFP over the closing dates for their transfer windows in order to ensure continuity across the major leagues.
