Michael Edwards ‘directly’ managing appointment of Liverpool manager

Rúben Amorim is the bookmakers favorite to become the next permanent Liverpool manager and it has been claimed the wheels for agreeing a deal are in motion. That’s according to Sport Witness, who have reported claims from Portugal that Liverpool will meet the Sporting CP manager’s agent this week.

SW have detailed Bruno Andrade of Maisfutebol’s understanding of the situation. He claims the Reds are “fully aware” of what is required if they are to appoint Amorim and that the process is being “managed directly” by the duo of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes.

Amorim secured an enormous win on Saturday, with his side beating second placed Benfica 2-1 to move four points clear with a game in hand at the top of the Primeira Liga. He looks very likely to secure a second league title in four seasons.

 

Andrade has reported there has been no direct contact yet between Liverpool and Amorim. The implication is that they are sounding out his agent first “before going in fully.” In light of the story below, the Reds’ hierarchy may wish to speed up the process if they can.

Chelsea join Liverpool in chasing ‘anti-Mourinho’ to replace Pochettino

Chelsea’s bizarre season continued at Bramall Lane on Sunday. Having led 2-0, trailed 3-2 and finally beaten United 4-3 on Thursday, Mauricio Pochettino’s side followed that up by twice throwing a lead away against bottom side Sheffield United in a 2-2 draw.

It has been reported by HITC that the Chelsea boss is far from certain to be in charge of the club next season. While this is hardly a surprise considering the Blues sit ninth in the table, their situation has become relevant to Liverpool with the news that Amorim is viewed as the ideal replacement, according to sources close to Chelsea.
