Michael Owen says he knows Liverpool star is ‘guilty’ after controversial actions.
Michael Owen says Ibrahima Konate knew he was “guilty” and should have been sent off during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Everton at Anfield on Saturday.
In the first half, Ashley Young received two yellow cards for a bad tackle on Luis Diaz. That was something not even Everton fans or Sean Dyche could complain about. But Everton’s players had every right to shout from the rooftops when Ibrahima Konate found himself in a similar situation in the second half.Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has told Premier League Productions (21/10/23 14:00:45) that Jurgen Klopp’s side were “lucky” and should have equalized when the game was still goalless. Even Jurgen Klopp knew his side were safe when he quickly brought down Ibrahima Konate.
Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman is furious. But those words were echoed by Michael Owen as Mohamed Salah secured his side’s three points against the Toffees in the Merseyside derby. “If you give a free kick in that situation, you should get a yellow card.” Owen said. “I think Liverpool were lucky here. “He was immediately ‘guilty’ (after Jurgen Klopp was replaced by Konate).
In only their second game of the season, Liverpool kept a clean sheet and injected much-needed vitality and confidence into their backline.Andy Robertson’s injury during the long international break doesn’t help.
But then Kostas Tsimikas stepped in and the rest of the team did an excellent job of dealing with Everton’s minimal threat.Against 10 men, you’d expect them to keep a clean sheet for most of the game, but on paper it’s a confidence booster for everyone involved at Anfield.
