Mo Salah will have the ‘toughest task’ of missing out on Dalglish and Gerrard at Anfield

Mohamed Salah’s performance against Everton was memorable in many ways. He surpassed the Anfield figures of Sir Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard for the win.

It wasn’t Liverpool’s number 11 in the derby. But like the big players, they always find a way to make an impact.

That’s exactly what happened in the 22nd minute when Salah doubled the lead in space with his first penalty to give United three points. Two took his tally of 200 league goals one step further and took him past Dalglish and Gerrard (104) to become the top scorer at Anfield, with Salah now on an incredible 105 goals.A testament to his remarkable consistency since joining the club in 2017, his tally now places him sixth on Liverpool’s home goalscoring chart.

Of course, Ian Rush is the best player at Anfield, having scored 185 goals in all competitions.Speaking to TNT Sport after the win, Virgil van Dijk, who played 215 games alongside Salah, highlighted the Egyptian’s pressing ability and consistent performances. “Big players [are being promoted],” said the Reds captain.

“Obviously, I think he missed a few times this season at the end of last season, but all we need is for him to step up and get results. That’s part of being a great footballer.”Yes, consistency is the hardest thing in football.

Do it every game. Mikolenko played really well against him, but the big guys stepped up when we needed them. “I’m very proud of him and everyone at the football club.”Salah’s assist on Saturday means he has now scored in each of United’s first four games of the season, a first since Peter Beardsley in 1990/91.

As long as it exists, records will continue to fall and Jurgen Klopp said as much after the derby win, even if his overall performances are not up to his usual world-class standards. “Mo Salah played fantastic for us but today was not his best performance,” Klopp said. “But the fact that he’s so cool on the shootout and can score goals is probably his best feature.

I like this.“We needed someone to get the ball over the line and it happened again. I could no longer respect this fact. The numbers are ridiculous. It never stops! That’s his nature and it’s really great for us.”
