Mohamed Salah told not to repeat Liverpool mistake as Luis Díaz transfer claim made

Ian Rush has told Mohamed Salah not to leave Anfield, while Jamie Carragher says he will fight for Luis Diaz’s Liverpool future. We’ll bring you the latest news from Liverpool. Mohamed Salah insists Liverpool must not repeat the same mistakes. Liverpool legend Ian Rush has urged Mohamed Salah to sign a new contract at Anfield amid uncertainty over his future.

Salah, who begins the final 18 months of his current contract next week, received a $190m (£150m/€172m) bid from Saudi Arabian Pro League club Al Ittihad in the latest day of the summer transfer window. Salah’s equalizer in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Saturday was his 16th of the season in all competitions, more than double that of his nearest rival Diogo Iotta.

Meanwhile, only Trent Alexander-Arnold (8) has more assists than the Egyptian (7). Speaking to the ECHO, Rush said he left the club to join Leeds United in 1996 because his starting opportunities were limited in his mid-30s. But Salah was told there was no reason to look for a way out as he was more important than ever. “I want him to sign a new contract, that would be great,” he said.

“He had another year after that. He is a great professional and young players can learn from him. I want him to extend his contract. I don’t know what will happen but I’m sure Liverpool fans will love it.”I left because I wasn’t playing regularly. I just wanted to play football. I didn’t want to sit on the bench. It is for you to see. I left here to go to Leeds United because I wanted to play every week.”I saw [Robbie] Fowler and [Stan] Collymore, they worked well together and I didn’t want to be on the bench.” I went to Leeds because I liked football.“But that was my situation and it depends on whether I like being in the bank or not. But Mo isn’t far yet, so there’s no reason to leave just yet.

bring him hereSalah’s goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace earlier this month was the club’s 200th goal in all competitions, making him the fifth player in the club’s history to reach the milestone border. Rush, the Reds’ all-time leading scorer with 346 points, was the last player to achieve the feat, the others including Roger Hunt (285), Gordon Hodgson (241) and Billy Liddell (228).

Jamie Carragher says he can’t pick one playerLuis Diaz is still not back to his best form after missing last season through injury and his form could push Liverpool further into the transfer window, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has told the Gary Neville Podcast. The Colombian also kept a clean sheet against Arsenal. This means he has scored a goal in his last 15 Premier League games.

Last year, Diaz was sidelined from October to December and again from December to April with a knee injury. Off the pitch, the winger missed the game against Nottingham Forest in October after his parents were kidnapped in his home country.
