It’s the biggest night of the NFL season as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers, and Liverpool players share their thoughts on the game. All eyes will be on Las Vegas this weekend as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers.
Allegiant Stadium will host the biggest names in the NFL and millions of people around the world will be watching. Of course, the star-studded match isn’t just known for on-field drama, with R&B star Usher set to entertain during the halftime show. It really is an event like no other and even Liverpool players can take part.
As Jurgen Klopp’s side prepare for Saturday’s trip to Burnley, the Anfield team have been asked to predict who will win the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the Super Bowl. The 49ers might hold the record for most wins (six) and are the bookies’ favorite heading into Sunday’s game.
However, depending on Liverpool’s selection, Chiefs will go out first. In an Instagram video, at least ten players picked Chiefs as winners, including Andy Robertson, Curtis Jones and Ibrahima Konate. And captain Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold agreed that Patrick Mahomes will be a decisive influence.
“The best player wins the game, Patrick Mahomes.” Alexander-Arnold said. Mahomes is considered by many to be one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history and is looking to become a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs.
Despite being the clear favourites, the 49ers received just three votes from Liverpool’s selection of players – Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and a confused Darwin Nunes.
Many Liverpool players have admitted to being NFL fans in the past and Van Dijk has followed the leadership style of the great Tom Brady. “Look at LeBron James in basketball or Tom Brady in the NFL. They are true leaders among the sport’s all-time greats. They are under a lot of pressure every day, but they still show their teammates what they can achieve and inspire them to greater heights,” he said in 2019.
Liverpool will be hoping for a win on Saturday after their performance against Burnley last weekend. The Reds were held below par at the Emirates and suffered their second league defeat of the season. The result saw Arsenal reduce their lead at the top to two points, while Manchester City beat Brentford on Monday night. Pep Guardiola’s men can secure a win against Everton in Saturday’s opener before Liverpool travel to Anfield.
The Super Cup remains the biggest event in sporting history and this weekend looks set to be another great night. Liverpool will no doubt be watching the game closely but will be hoping to build on the three points against Burnley.
