NBA Offseason Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers in potential pursuit of $8 million Golden State Warriors center to support the Luka-LeBron deadly duo

The Los Angeles Lakers have made a serious impact in the 2025 NBA season, and their momentum shows no signs of slowing down. With 10 wins in their last 12 games, the team is firmly in contention as the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference. The recent acquisition of ex-Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has only added to their firepower. However, one glaring issue remains: the Lakers’ need for a reliable center. Enter Kevon Looney, the three-time NBA champion from the Golden State Warriors, who could be the perfect solution for Los Angeles in the upcoming free agency.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ center rotation has been a point of concern all season. After a failed trade for Charlotte Hornets’ Mark Williams, the team settled for veteran Alex Len in the buyout market. While Len has provided temporary relief, he isn’t a long-term answer. This is where Kevon Looney comes into the picture. The 29-year-old Warriors center is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Lakers are reportedly keen on pursuing him.

Looney, drafted 30th overall by Golden State in 2015, has been a cornerstone of the Warriors’ success over the past decade. A key contributor to three championship runs, his impact was particularly evident during the 2022 title-winning season. In the 2022 NBA Playoffs, Looney averaged 5.8 points and 7.6 rebounds while shooting an impressive 63.8% from the field. This season, despite limited minutes, he’s putting up 5.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, showcasing his consistency and value as a rebounder and defender.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ interest in Looney isn’t new. Earlier this season, the team reportedly explored trades for both Looney and Warriors’ Gary Payton II. While those deals didn’t materialize, the Lakers’ need for a veteran big man with playoff experience remains. Looney’s championship pedigree and ability to excel in high-pressure situations make him an ideal fit for a team with title aspirations.
