Lifting the title ahead of Arsenal and City would be the fitting end to Klopp’s tenure, but he will hope to have one more showpiece final as Liverpool boss. The Reds take on Atalanta in the quarter-finals and the first leg is to be played at Anfield on Thursday night.

Klopp’s men remain favorites to go on and win the competition, with Marseille or Benfica lying in wait in the last four, but Atalanta will not be underestimated.

The ex-England striker was reminded of that incident shortly after Arsenal’s draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Gunners felt they should have had a late penalty when Bukayo Saka collided with Manuel Neuer.

Replays showed it was the Arsenal man who initiated the contact but Wright resisted the opportunity to criticize Saka, as he did with Jota earlier in the campaign.
