Three Newcastle United players walk the disciplinary tightrope ahead of their trip to Liverpool in the New Year.
Newcastle United will miss Kieran Trippier’s Premier League clash with Fulham on Saturday afternoon after serving a one-match ban. The England right-back picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in last weekend’s 4-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.
Trippier could be a doubt for the Cottagers’ trip after being forced off an hour into Wednesday’s game against AC Milan. It will be the first league game Trippier has missed for Spurs since April 2022, when he spent six games recovering from a metatarsal injury after joining from Atletico Madrid.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe said Trippier’s suspension was “a massive blow for us”. “Kieran sets the standard for achieving a consistent level of performance. We miss this quality.
“When he’s part of the biggest offensive threat every week, it’s hard to miss him. He also scored some really good crosses today, especially in the second half. “He is a great technician and we will miss him against Fulham.
“The 33-year-old joins Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimarez to reach the five yellow card mark. A player who receives five yellow cards in the first 19 league matches will be suspended for one match. Day 20 – New Year’s Day game away to Liverpool.
Sean Longstaff, Joelinton and Jamaal Lascelles are the other three players facing disciplinary action. This means the three players will have to avoid being booked or face a ban for the games against Fulham, Luton Town and Nottingham Forest.
Elsewhere on the booking page there are two bookings from Fabian Schar and Dan Burn. Miguel Almiron, Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman, Tino Livramento, Matt Ritchie, Matt Targett and Callum Wilson each received a Premier League booking.
