One of the biggest and potentially toughest jobs in world football will become available next summer.
Jurgen Klopp shocked the footballing world in January when he confirmed that this would be his last season at Liverpool, ending his extraordinary career on Merseyside.While the German insists he wants to focus on matters on the pitch, the search for Klopp’s replacement is taking place off the pitch.
Given the prestige attached to the role, numerous famous names have been linked to the position. The early favorite is Xabi Alonso, who established himself as a player for the Reds after performing well at Bayer Leverkusen and winning the Champions League in 2005.
Other names in the squad include Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting CP manager Ruben Amor.
Alonso has quickly become the favorite for the job following Klopp’s announcement and there are reports that Liverpool could sign him from Leverkusen. The former midfielder took charge of the German club this summer and led them to the top of the Bundesliga.
Alonso also embodied real character as the team played fluid and sparkling football.
