In four seasons with the Duke Blue Devils, head coach Jon Scheyer has an incredible 124-25 record, which equates to a win percentage of 83.2%. After losing nine games in each of his first two seasons, Scheyer has turned things around, with just seven combined losses in the last two years. So, what has made Scheyer and Duke so successful over the last two seasons?
Duke’s dominance on the road
While some high-level talent like Cameron Boozer and Cooper Flagg certainly play a role, it’s been Duke’s dominance on the road that makes them stand out from other schools. In the last two seasons, Duke has amassed 20 road wins, the most among all Power Five schools. Only eight other schools have tallied 15 or more road wins in that span, and only two schools have more than 16, those being St. John’s and recent NCAA champions, Michigan.
Alabama, Houston and UConn have 16 such wins, while Florida, Arizona and Clemson have 15. Both of Duke’s road losses (not including neutral site losses) came against ACC schools. The Blue Devils fell last season to North Carolina and two years ago against the aforementioned Clemson Tigers.
Assuming Duke is able to keep up their success away from home during the 2026-27 season, they may be a lock for another No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
