Jude Bellingham’s impressive performance was a bit bittersweet for Liverpool fans.
The Real Madrid man was on the club’s radar before Liverpool finally decided to drop talks. In the end, Liverpool will not regret the decision made.
While Bellingham impressed at Real Madrid, the Reds were able to sign Dominic Szoboszlai and Alexis McAllister for around the same price. This is not a bad compromise.
Meanwhile, some of Red’s other midfielders have also improved this season and become one of the best players in Europe at the moment.
One of them is Curtis Jones. Only Bellingham is better than Curtis Jones.
Looking at England midfielders who have played at least 900 minutes in all competitions in Europe’s top five leagues (league, domestic and European Cup), Curtis Jones currently ranks second in penalties with an average of 0.51 goals for 90 minutes.
Only Bellingham is better than the Liverpool midfielder, with a return per 90 of 1.08.
James Ward-Prowse 0.50 below Jones. Meanwhile, Cole Palmer recorded 0.71 but was ruled out as he has played most of his time as a winger for Chelsea this season.
This is an impressive speech from the Liverpool midfielder. The exciting prospect for Jones is that he’s just getting started.
In his first game of 2024, Jurgen Klopp spoke of a “special, special” performance against Newcastle United. But I still think there is more to come.
