Pep Guardiola handed Man City injury boost as two Liverpool players could be rested


Liverpool will soon be back in action, with the Reds set to meet Manchester City in a crunch Premier League game on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium. Until then, there are still international games to be played, and the hope is that all of the Reds’ players return to Merseyside with no injuries or issues. Liverpool receives Dutch boost

Liverpool has received a boost for their upcoming clash with Man City with the news that Dutch pair Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo could be rested for the Netherlands in their clash against Gibraltar.

That’s according to Dutch pundit Maarten Wijffeels who, speaking on the AD Football Podcast, stated that with qualification to Euro 2024 secure, both Van Dijk and Gakpo will be rested.

“Now that the Dutch team has qualified for the European Championship, all kinds of club coaches are going to call to spare the big guns,” said Wijffeels.

“Jurgen Klopp does not want Cody Gakpo or Virgil van Dijk to get injured against Gibraltar.” Wijffeels states that it’s likely that the Netherlands’ line-up against Gibraltar will be an entirely new side than the one seen in the game against Ireland. Both Van Dijk and Gakpo starred in the 1-0 win at the weekend.

Man City receives boost ahead of Liverpool showdown

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has received a massive boost leading into the game against Liverpool, with the news that Rodri is set to be available for the reigning champions.

The two teams meet on Saturday, and the Spaniard had been a doubt after complaining of discomfort at the beginning of the international break. He missed Spain’s win over Cyprus on November 16. However, Rodri started in the 3-1 win over Georgia and looks set to feature against Liverpool this weekend

Erling Haaland could miss the game however, with the Norwegian striker sitting out his nation’s 3-3 draw with Scotland at the weekend. Haaland suffered an ankle injury against the Faroe Islands and will be monitored going into Saturday’s game.
