Phil Foden had a hilarious reaction to Virgil Van Dijk’s challenge during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
After being fouled by the Liverpool centre-back, Foden appeared to square up to the defender who had stopped him.
However, fans noticed a humorous moment in which the England international instantly retreated after realising who had tackled him.
The Man City star then just let Van Dijk run off, despite looking visually aggrieved by the challenge.
Fans were quick to notice, with one posting: ‘Foden wanted to square up with the player who challenged him but then realised it was Van Dijk.’
‘Stood there like a lil kid’ another added.
‘Got brave for a second then realised he’d get folded’ a third penned.
‘Foden can’t fight van dijk bro.’ another user wrote.
‘What a tackle. Best Defender of all time’ a fifth posted.
Liverpool were hungry for more throughout the second half, with the hosts on top for large parts of the match. Despite equalising in the second half through Alexis Mac Allister who converted from the penalty spot, Liverpool dominated play.
Foden wanted to square up with the player who challenged him but then realised it was Van Dijk.
Late into added time, the Reds were hoping for a second penalty after Jeremy Doku’s chest-high tackle on Mac Allister was denied.
Despite fans and players calling for a penalty, or even a booking, the scores remained level at 1-1, leaving Arsenal top of the Premier League at the end of the weekend.
