Calvin Phillips could leave Manchester City in the January transfer window after struggling for regular first-team football at the Etihad.
Phillips has made just two Premier League appearances since joining the club from Leeds for £45m in 2022, with the England international fighting to be part of Pep Guardiola’s plans.
The 27-year-old’s place in England’s squad for next summer’s European Championships is under threat, with Phillips set to leave in the winter transfer window after playing just 167 minutes in all competitions this season.
Despite Rodri’s recent suspension, Guardiola is backing summer signing Mateo Kovacic and teenager Rico Luis in central midfield positions this season.
Fabrizio Romano has suggested Phillips could leave in the New Year, with Sky Sports Germany saying Liverpool are one of the clubs monitoring his situation.
Manchester United are interested in signing a defensive midfielder as Jurgen Klopp continues to rebuild his engine room after trying to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Rabia in the summer transfer window. Interest from the Premier League is expected to be strong, with the midfielder long favored by Newcastle, Aston Villa and West Ham.
Among the clubs who want to send Phillips in the winter are Juventus and Bayern.
