Paris Saint-Germain are close to agreeing a deal to sign Lucas Beraldo, according to reports.
The 20-year-old defender has been identified as a strong target for the Reds ahead of the transfer window reopening next month, with Jurgen Klopp struggling with injury problems.
Liverpool have at least one defensive signing in 2024. Joel Matip’s season-ending injury has increased the need for reinforcements at the back. The Reds have been linked with a number of centre-backs ahead of January and have also been named favorites in the race for Sao Paulo Beraldo after impressive performances in South America.
However, according to Santi Aouna, PSG will sign a winter contract for the Brazil youth international. A Foot Mercato reporter wrote about it. “I might have a health check next week,” he said.
Auna added that PSG are in talks with Corinthians to sign 18-year-old midfielder Gabriel Moscardo, who has been loosely linked with Liverpool in recent weeks.
Beraldo may not be playing for now, but it remains to be seen what signings Liverpool will make next month. Jurgen Klopp came on for the injured Matip and publicly undermined Liverpool’s chances.
However, another report says Reds are open to a deal “if the price is right”. Goncalo Inacio (Sporting CP) is another regularly linked centre-back, while Piero Hincapie (Leverkusen) and Leni Yoro (Lille) are also mentioned as potential targets.
Anfield Watch understands that improving the defense is a priority for the Reds in 2024, although the big money is likely to arrive in the summer.
Liverpool are set to make January signings despite warnings from Klopp, who has signed Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo in the past two years.
