Mo Salah has scored many great goals during his career at Liverpool, making him one of the club’s best players.
His goal against Tottenham Hotspur demonstrated his ability to beat defenders and score in spectacular fashion and further cemented his reputation as a big-match player.
Salah’s shot against Chelsea flew into the top corner. In doing so, he proved his former club wrong to let him go and showcased his outstanding left-footed skills.
Liverpool have had many great players over the years. Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and Steven Gerrard immediately come to mind. And current winger Mohamed Salah deserves his place among these legends.
It’s not crazy to think that the Egyptian arrived at Anfield in 2017 having previously been labeled a ‘failure’ in the Premier League after his struggles at Chelsea. He made just 19 appearances and scored two goals for the Blues before resuming his career with Fiorentina and Roma.
However, Salah had a successful performance at Manchester United, scoring 32 Premier League goals in his debut season. He subsequently became the fastest player to reach 50 goals for Liverpool in just his 65th appearance.
Under Jurgen Klopp, the winger has enjoyed continued glory since returning to England. He was instrumental in helping his team win the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup. It is safe to say that he will become a true club legend.
Fans may talk about Salah’s incredible speed, great feet and many other assets as they look back at Salah’s future performances, but the focus will undoubtedly be on his goals.
There is still a long way to go before Rush reaches his record tally of 346 in a Liverpool shirt, but the Egyptian has a field of beauties to rival any in the club’s history.
That’s why GIVEMESPORT decided to identify the ten biggest targets of the Reds. In addition to the aesthetics of the offense, we also considered how important the effort is in the context of each game when compiling the list.
11. Liverpool 7-0 Manchester United – March 2023
Honestly, this was Salah’s best goal of all time, but he deserves a spot on this list for a few reasons. First, it came from a game that Reds around the world will remember forever. Klopp and his team thrashed Manchester United 7-0, Salah making it 4-0 in the 66th minute.
The ball broke for the 31-year-old on the bounce and he instinctively smashed it against the bar with his right foot. This puts him level with Robbie Fowler as the club’s top goalscorer in the Premier League.
He confirmed this record by adding a short distance second in the race (129th overall).
10. West Ham 1-3 Liverpool – January 2021
Salah scored an incredible goal in this game, but it was only his second goal, and a fine performance puts him at number 9 on our list. After all, football is a team sport and this attack showed great chemistry between Liverpool’s three players.
It started with a West Ham corner that was cleared to safety. Trent Alexander-Arnold stepped onto the ball on the edge of his area and made a brilliant switch to the onrushing Xherdan Shaqiri.
Now the Swiss midfielder doesn’t even touch the ball when driving it into the opposition’s first penalty area. Salah easily beat him before firing into the net. This is one of the biggest counter attacks you will see as two passes move the ball from one side of the pitch to the other.
9. Southampton 3-1 Liverpool – April 2019
Klopp and Salah’s blistering pace has seen Liverpool score a few goals on the counter-attack in recent years, his effort against Southampton being another example.
The midfielder collected the ball in his own half and attacked with intent before it went over the outstretched arms of the opposition keeper. It was a great display of speed, dribbling and superb composure from the 31-year-old, but it was an important one.
In fact, it was his 50th league goal in all competitions for United. He played in 69 matches, setting a record three times faster than Fernando Torres’ previous record.
8. Red Bull Salzburg 0-2 Liverpool – December
This next lens is listed for aesthetic value only. Salah doesn’t score that many goals with his right foot. Just 22 of his 149 Premier League goals.
Therefore, this lens is also a must-have lens for your collection. Coming into Europe against Red Bull Salzburg, the Egyptian had a low performance but made a huge impact in the finish. He beat the goalkeeper with one touch and slotted the ball into the back of the net to progress to the last 16 of the Champions League.
7. Liverpool 5-2 Roma – April 2018
Salah led the club to the Champions League final (losing to Real Madrid) in his debut season at Reds. To get to this point, he showed his class by scoring two excellent goals against his former team Roma.
The former particularly stands out when he collects the ball on the edge of the area before diving with his left foot to send a beautiful shot into the top corner. It was a good goal, but perhaps Roma should have known that they learned this kind of trademark form from their former player. At least he didn’t celebrate.
6. Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United – January 2020
Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with going straight to football. In fact, any goal can be good. This is especially true if the goal comes against a fierce rival. Such was the case in the match between Liverpool and Manchester United at the beginning of 2020.
Goalkeeper Alisson kicked a long ball to catch Salah in injury time. He blocked Dan James before firing past David de Gea. The home fans chanted, “We will win the league.” It was only January, but they weren’t wrong. No wonder Alisson rushed onto the pitch to celebrate with Salah.
5. Liverpool 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur – February 2018
From this list, you can see that Salah is frequently in action in the big games, and in the 2018/19 season he ruined Tottenham Hotspur’s dreams with a penalty in the Champions League final. But just a few months ago, he once again became a liability for Tottenham in that campaign.
This time, playing at home in the Premier League, the Egyptian would net twice in a 2-2 draw. His second goal off the game was a thing of wonder as he somehow slipped between a number of Spurs bodies, with the ball glued to his feet, to then lift a sublime finish just above the reach of the onrushing Hugo Lloris.
4. Watford 0-5 Liverpool – October 2021
It certainly wasn’t the most important goal of his career, but it was one of his best. Claudio Ranieri took charge of Watford in his first game in charge and may have regretted his choice as Liverpool ran out 5-0 winners at Vicarage Road.
Roberto Firmino scored a hat trick, but Salah’s goal grabbed the attention. The flashy-fingered winger danced between three Watford players, turned and slotted the ball past Ben Foster before slotting home another. Plus it was his second stunning goal in as many games, but more on that later.
3. Liverpool 1-1 Everton – December 2017
Merseyside derby goals will always be cherished by Liverpool fans, but a good goal will be remembered for a long time. Salah showed great strength to hold on to his man before quickly pushing the ball past Idrissa Gana Gueye and firing into the top corner.
To be fair, calling this a win for Puskas was a very controversial decision, so he didn’t make the top two. In the end, James Milner said that this goal was the “seventh best goal of the season”.
2. Liverpool 2-2 Manchester City – October 2021
No matter how many wins Salah has won in a Liverpool shirt, he could have doubled his trophy haul if it wasn’t for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola and company were Red’s biggest rivals during the Klopp era and drew that fixture in 2021, with City subsequently winning the league.
But Salah has embarrassed at least a few opponents by scoring one of his goals this season. He stopped Joao Cancelo, got on top of Bernardo Silva and found the back of the net past Aymeric Laporte. What makes this goal even more surprising is that, as mentioned above, he scored another amazing goal against Watford a few weeks later (in the next league game).
1. LIVERPOOL 2-0 CHELSEA – APRIL 2019
Topping our list is the absolute rocket he scored against the Blues in 2019. He picked up the ball from the byline, got in with his left foot and fired a powerful shot into the top corner, putting Reds wide .
The best in the competition. What makes it even more special is that it was against his old club. With that one left-footed shot, he proved to everyone at Chelsea that they had made a huge mistake in ruling him out without a doubt.
Hear the sound of the ball hitting the back of the net. There is no sweeter sound than that.
