The latest edition of the Merseyside derby looks set to linger in the second camp for a good while longer, or at least it will from the perspective of Everton supporters. We’ve reached the point where a Blues’ fan channel has claimed the failure to send off Ibrahima Konaté was “worse than Liverpool’s against Spurs,” in reference to Luis Díaz’ disallowed goal against Tottenham.
If the aim of the comment was to increase engagement and interaction on social media, well, mission accomplished. The two examples are not remotely similar and Liverpool fans have not been shy in pointing that out.
Football supporters have very long memories. This can work positively, in terms of favorite matches and goals from yesteryear, but there is also the negative side, fuming about decisions in matches that other fans may have long since forgotten.
