Robbie Savage says LFC should sign Klopp replacement with 85.71% win rate

Robbie Savage has urged Liverpool to sign Xabi Alonso as their next manager. It follows Jurgen Klopp’s shock announcement last week asking him to stay at the Merseysiders for nine years.

“Roberto De Zervi is doing great for Brighton but after what happened with Graham Potter at Chelsea I don’t think he will be a suitable player for Liverpool,” said the former Brighton star. “I would choose Xabi Alonso.

What he did at Bayer Leverkusen is fantastic and he knows Liverpool very well. Although he spent a relatively short time at Leverkusen, the type of football his team plays makes him the ideal candidate for Liverpool.

“Ange Postecoglou is another person I think will be on the draft. A lot of what he brings to Tottenham is similar to what Liverpool do in that they have a great defensive line and play high-energy, ‘heavy metal’ football”.

For me, Postecoglou would be a perfect fit for Liverpool. However, given his short time at Spurs, we’re not sure that’s possible. “If I were now the director of football at Liverpool, the two names I would interview would be Xabi Alonso and Anjou Postecoglo.

“Both fit the dynamic at Liverpool and would be good appointments, but I think Alonso could be the man to get it. “The former Reds midfielder has had an impressive, albeit short, career so far (65 games). He has played in 28 matches for Bayer Leverkusen this season and has a win rate of 85.71%. Can Liverpool sign Alonso?

Sources familiar with the situation in Germany say that while there are no formal terms, Alonso will be allowed to leave Leverkusen for a “top club” due to a written agreement between the pair.

Given the size of the role and the 42-year-old’s previous loyalties, Liverpool should be one of those clubs. But we think there should be some hesitation here. We have to be careful…Even though the former Spain international plays a very attractive brand of football, 65 games for senior management doesn’t mean there’s a lot of work available for our data analysts.

There are concerns that Alonso does not have the quality to translate his success in Germany to the Merseysiders. Given our emotional connection to men, we wish the opposite were true. At this stage we don’t know enough about it.
