Romano Provides Update As Liverpool Are Linked With Bid For Player That Thomas Tuchel Has Called A “Machine”

Liverpool are not pursuing a move for Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Spanish press have claimed that the Reds, Chelsea and Barcelona have all shown an interest in signing the German international but, writing in his Daily Briefing column, Romano said:

“Sane has new agent now, so it will be time to discuss his contract situation at Bayern again and with new person in charge soon.”

“Discussions will take place and the situation will be clarified. However, I don’t know where Liverpool links are coming from as they don’t have a director nor a manager in place for next season, and these appointments will be crucial before deciding transfer targets.”

Why have Liverpool been linked with Sane?
The former Manchester City player is closing in on the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena and, until he changed agents, there was growing speculation that he could move clubs this summer.

However, Sane is now being represented by Jamal Musiala’s representative, who has close ties with Bayern, which suggests he will now stay with the Bundesliga champions.

Sane has been praised for his form this season
The 28-year-old has put in some great performances since the beginning of the campaign so it is not a surprise that clubs have taken an interest in him. The winger has scored 9 goals and provided 12 assists in 29 appearances. Back in November, his manager Thomas Tuchel spoke about the player in glowing terms:

“Physically, he’s a machine. He can implement our instructions like almost nobody else. As well as his talent, his physical condition is top-class. It suits him when he starts quite wide. Currently, he’s very strong on the left wing. His performances can’t be praised highly enough at the moment.”

As Romano points out, though, with no sporting director or manager in place for next season, Liverpool are unlikely to be looking at transfer targets at the moment.
