years!’Roy Keane was not happy with the Manchester United captain’s comments
.Roy Keane has slammed “arrogant” Virgil van Dijk over the Liverpool captain’s comments following Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United.
The Reds were tipped to win at Anfield before the game but underperformed, missing out on a chance to secure a win and go back to the top of the league with United. Liverpool captain Van Dijk told Sky Sports after the game:
“There was only one team trying to win the game and unfortunately it didn’t happen. We were superior in every way and they were hoping to upset us on the contrary and they did. .
Buzzing with the idea.”Keane was quick to point out what he perceived as Van Dijk’s arrogance. Asked about Van Dijk’s comments, he said: “There is a lot of arrogance from him.
“You have to remember they are playing for a club that has won a title in 30 years,” he said.Another pundit, Daniel Sturridge, tried to defend van Dijk, but Keane couldn’t. He continued: “He said United were at the top and a team came to play.
Yes, I’ve been to Anfield many times with Liverpool battling Manchester United and I was happy to get a draw.”
“Manchester United are in a difficult situation. Liverpool have been going through extreme difficulties for several years. So maybe that little bit of arrogance came back to him today.”
