Roy Keane says Liverpool legend Virgil van Dijk needs to “get a life” after being sent off.
Liverpool legend Roy Keane has been told to “get a life” after his post-match altercation with Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool and Manchester United played out a goalless draw at Anfield last weekend. Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated play but failed to score as the visitors held on for a much-needed point.
The Red Devils’ result and tactics frustrated Van Dijk, who claimed his side were the only side trying to win the game as they seemed to focus their attacks on their opponents.
“We had the most possession and created the most chances. There was only one team that could win,” he told Sky Sports. “Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, so we want to win every game.
“Especially when you’re playing against a team like them.”Keane sat down for Van Dijk’s post-match interview in the Sky Sports studio following Van Dijk’s announcement.
He called the Liverpool captain “arrogant” and “rude”. Liverpool legend Phil Thompson now weighs in on the Keane-Van Dijk exchange. He ruthlessly told the Irish to “get a life” and defended Van Dijk’s comments.
“I don’t think he was arrogant, I think he spoke his mind,” Thompson told The Mirror. “Gary [Neville] has his views just like Roy has his views. It wasn’t arrogance at all.
I would say it was a disappointment. “I think you let that game go and now you’re in control. Manchester United had a chance with [Rasmus] Hojland and you felt let down. There was no arrogance here.”
The 69-year-old added: “And Roy Keane talks about the arrogance of people… Come on, do me a favor.”And I love Roy…” But when I played it, that word kept repeating itself.
Van Dijk’s anger came as Liverpool missed out on a chance to go top of the league as they finished second with 38 points. Manchester United is in 7th place with 28 points.
