Lakers Should Go All-In For Rising Pistons Center; Potential Trade Scenario Explained

The Los Angeles Lakers have reshaped their roster into a true championship contender by pairing Luka Doncic with LeBron James, but one glaring weakness remains: the center position. After failing to acquire Mark Williams due to a failed physical, the Lakers settled for Alex Len—a stopgap solution rather than a game-changer.

They must use every resource at their disposal to get Jalen Duren, a young, powerful big man who might be their long-term solution in the paint, if they wish to make the most of their title window. Duren, who averages almost double-doubles and has exceptional rebounding, rim protection, and quickness, has been a bright spot in the Detroit Pistons’ successful season.

Detroit’s asking price has been high because, at barely 21, he has the skills to be a franchise cornerstone. Duren has already drawn interest from the Lakers, but the Pistons have been hesitant to trade him until they receive a sizable payout.

But since Detroit is still in the midst of rebuilding, the perfect deal might make them change their minds. Duren might be the final component that gives the Lakers the edge in the Western Conference, so if they want to make a move, now is the moment. Let’s examine what a Duren trade for the Lakers may entail.

The Lakers have already acquired Luka Doncic in one of the most surprising moves in NBA history, but they have more work to do. Los Angeles would have the perfect frontcourt presence with Jalen Duren in the mix, enabling the Lakers to control the paint on both ends.

Duren, who is only 21 years old, is already a double-double machine. He shoots 69.7% from the field and averages more than 11.1 points and 10.3 rebounds a game. Compared to their current center rotation, which includes Alex Len and Jaxson Hayes, his athleticism, rebounding, and rim protection would be a huge improvement. Duren fits right in with the Lakers.
