Ryan Gravenberch cautions against underestimating Sheffield, and insists that manager Jürgen Klopp says that same thing. He also says that he believes their weekend battle and victory over Fulham is indicative of the team spirit.
The Reds beat Fulham at home 4-3 in a wild game that, while too close for comfort, saw some world class goals and proved that Liverpool can remain tenacious and focused when they need to. “I think every game in the Premier League is difficult,” the midfielder said. “We go there on Wednesday and we don’t underestimate them. I think we’ve done very well [so far]. We are now second in the league and we just go game by game and I think we’ve done very well.[The Fulham result] says a lot. I think also when you play at Anfield, the atmosphere with the fans and everything, that gave us a boost.”
Gravenberch insists that there’s still much for of the season left, and they can’t get complacent. He also said that his wish for his time at Liverpool is to “be important for the team.”
He started last week’s game in the midfield, and he could get another opportunity on Wednesday to show his worth as well. While he didn’t start the season guns blazing like Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, he’s showing himself to be adept at his join in the middle. And as the heavy festive period creeps closer, we will be at all hands on deck territory. It will be good to have Gravenberch as an option for Klopp in the coming weeks.
Liverpool travel to Sheffield United for a midweek Premier League game on Wednesday evening. Liverpool sit at second on the league table, while their opponents are propping up the bottom with only 5 points out of the possible 42.
