BBC pundit Alan Shearer has listed Liverpool’s Mo Salah as the second-best winger of the Premier League era.
The Egyptian international was ranked ahead of Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Manchester United’s David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Salah was beaten to top spot by Ryan Giggs. Speaking about his decision on the Match of the Day Top 10 show, Shearer said:
“I just think over 600 appearances and 13 Premier League titles, that’s why he’s (Ryan Giggs) number one.”
Salah has been phenomenal since moving to the Reds from Roma in the summer of 2017. He has racked up 154 goals and 73 assists in 253 league appearances over the past 7 seasons.
Richards and Lineker agree with Shearer
Shearer’s co-hosts Micah Richards and Gary Lineker were also given the chance to rank their best-ever Premier League wingers and they also placed Salah in second spot.
They did, however, have differing opinions on who should be picked in first place, with Richards going for Ronaldo while Lineker went with Giggs.
Salah’s future at Liverpool remains up in the air
The 31-year-old will have just a year left on his contract with the Merseyside club at the end of the season. After being the subject of a bid from Saudi Arabia back in September last year, there is a feeling that more offers from the Middle East will arrive this summer.
Salah himself hasn’t yet made it known whether a departure is on the cards but he has spoken out to say that his future would not be determined by Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave the Reds:
“No. It’s part of life now, that everything moves. Players have left already, very important players. The manager is also very important for the club and is leaving. One day I will leave the club, but no [Klopp leaving doesn’t affect my future].”
