‘SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED IN THE LAST SIX OR EIGHT MONTHS’: JAN MOLBY SPEAKS HIGHLY OF LIVERPOOL YOUNGSTER

Liverpool legend Jan Molby has spoken highly of LFC youth academy graduate Curtis Jones for his rapid development in the last six months.

The Anfield giants have bounced back into great form this season after last season’s disappointing 5th-place finish in PL.

And not being able to play in the Champions League has motivated the team to play even better this summer.

The Reds are currently 2nd in the PL trailing by 1 point behind Manchester City. Although the whole team has performed very well, the new midfield, thanks to the extensive midfield rebuild, has helped the team in redeeming themselves.

Especially after the departure of several senior midfielders this summer, four new midfield signings have been quite impactful. But after the injury of Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic, the only pre-existing Merseysider midfielders have been Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott.

Among the two midfielders, the 22-year-old has been more effective this season according to Jan Molby. While speaking on the We are Liverpool Podcast, Molby said,

“I don’t think he is this or that. I think you’re capable of playing in all three positions. Something has happened in the last six or eight months that lends me towards thinking you’re ready to play in any position. You seem capable of handling it all and that’s really impressive.”

Jones has been a key player for the England U-21 team in their Euro U-21 title win with his goal in the final against Spain U-21 prior to the start of the 2023-24 season in July. And since then he has grown his leadership skills and imposing factors.

This season the English midfielder has made 9 appearances across all competitions playing 555 minutes. He currently averages 94% passing accuracy, and 0.9 key passes every match while putting in 1.2 tackles and 0.8 interceptions on average (stats via WhoScored).

In the absence of senior players like Jordan Henderson or Fabinho, he has grown into a leader figure. And him being a local Scouser has also helped him to get ahold of the situation quite well.

If Jones continues to produce performances like this, he will soon become a Liverpool icon just like Steven Gerrard.
