South Dakota transfer center Cameron Fens has committed to UNC men’s basketball for his fifth year, On3 announced Friday afternoon. According to On3, UNC started trying to recruit Fens last week.
The 7-foot big man played his first two seasons for the University of Illinois Chicago before transferring to South Dakota, where he averaged 14.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game last season as a senior. He started all 32 games for the Coyotes and received All-Summit League First Team and All-Defensive Team honors.
Fens was one of 19 athletes granted an extra year of eligibility via a temporary injunction by a Davidson County, Tennessee court in July, after the NCAA announced a new age-based eligibility model that allows up to five years of eligibility.
