Stefan Bajcetic has expressed his sadness at seeing his outstanding season at Liverpool derailed by injury.
The Spaniard burst onto the scene in a difficult 2022/23 season, serving as a beacon of light in a dreary, long-legged midfield whose best days were behind him.
Bajcetic made 19 senior appearances, scoring his first goal for Aston Villa on Boxing Day last year, and was subsequently named the Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month for January.
But while he continued to perform at a high level and showed why he should play a key role in rebuilding Liverpool’s midfield going forward, his breakthrough campaign was halted in March due to a stress reaction surrounding the player.
“I had the same injury before, but on the other hand, I thought this would happen when it started to hurt,” Bajcetic told the club’s website.
“But in my mind I was thinking, ‘It can’t be the same, I have to keep playing.’“But I did the scan. The scan is very rigorous. They always look the same. I remember them calling me when I was at home and saying, “I’m stressed.”
“Of course, it was a difficult moment, but I think we overcame it well. We saw this as an opportunity to strengthen and improve in some areas. “I tried to stay positive mentally.”
“I can’t stop thinking about what I would have done and what I could have done at that moment,” said Bajcetic, who had to watch his teammates practice from the sidelines. So it’s definitely difficult.”Just counting the days until I get to the gym and back.
“The 19-year-old is still trying to make a full return to Liverpool after suffering another setback on his first return to the Europa League earlier in the season. But when he finally returns, he looks set to succeed at Anfield.
“What I want to achieve is to win a trophy,” Baicetic said. “[It’s] something I saw when I was in the academy and they won two cups in 2021-22, but I wasn’t in the team that liked that. “Especially in this city, I want to present a trophy for the fans.
It doesn’t matter which one.” Every trophy is very important for the fans and makes the team positive.”That’s what I want to achieve here.”
