Steph Curry acknowledged the double-edged sword of emotions that the upcoming All-Star festivities could bring for himself and the Golden State Warriors. The Ringer published a feature on Tuesday covering the overarching struggles the Dubs have experienced this season, with many revealing quotes from the star guard himself. One of Curry’s more salient comments was about the All-Star Weekend, coming to the Bay Area for the first time in 25 years starting on Feb. 14. He’s certainly excited, but he’s not super optimistic about what the future holds.
“It’s just a way to celebrate the culture here, to celebrate the energy here, to celebrate what the Warriors have meant in NBA history,” Curry told Logan Murdock. “While also not trying to allow it to be a ‘Coming to America 2’ moment, like a live funeral.”
That second sentence isn’t set in stone, but it’s pretty dependent on how things go ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline. The Warriors have reportedly been calling around for a trade to pair Curry with a superstar, but their attempts have grown rather desperate. If Golden State comes up empty again, the Warriors highlights that flash across screens throughout San Francisco and Oakland will certainly have that “In Memoriam” feel. Of course, a ‘Coming 2 America’ moment would also be a bit of an understatement for the Dubs. In the movie, the “live funeral” is a grand party for a dying king who wants to be in attendance for the celebration. As the festivities come to an end, the king dies, which ultimately kicks off the story’s main plot.
