TEXAS’ POSTSEASON PUSH CONTINUES: Longhorns Fall to Tennessee, but Remain in Contention for March Madness Berth
Austin, TX – The Texas Longhorns’ quest for a March Madness berth remains alive, despite a 72-83 loss to the No. 8 Tennessee Volunteers in the Southeastern Conference Championship. The Longhorns’ postseason push continues, with their NCAA Tournament hopes still intact.
*A TOUGH LOSS, BUT A PROMISING PERFORMANCE*
The Longhorns gave it their all against the Volunteers, but ultimately came up short. Despite the loss, Texas’ offense showed signs of life, with graduate forward Kadin Shedrick reaching his 1,000th career point.
“I thought our offense was really good,” Shedrick said. “They have the best defense in the country. We just couldn’t stop them. When you’re playing with Tennessee, you have to be able to get stops.”
*DEFENSE LETS LONGHORNS DOWN*
The Longhorns’ defense struggled to contain the Volunteers’ high-powered offense, allowing 83 points on the day. Texas Head Coach Rodney Terry acknowledged the defensive struggles, but remained optimistic about his team’s postseason chances.
“We knew Tennessee was a tough opponent, but we didn’t execute defensively like we needed to,” Terry said. “However, I’m proud of our guys for fighting hard and keeping it close. We’ll learn from this and move forward.”
*MARCH MADNESS HOPES STILL ALIVE*
Despite the loss, the Longhorns remain in contention for an NCAA Tournament berth. With a strong finish to the season, Texas could still secure a spot in the Big Dance.
“We’re not giving up,” Shedrick said. “We’re going to keep fighting and see where it takes us. We’re still in this.”
*WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE LONGHORNS?*
The Longhorns will now await their postseason fate, with the NCAA Tournament selection committee set to announce the field of 68 on Selection Sunday. With a little luck and a lot of heart, Texas could still find themselves dancing in March.
