Jamie Carragher has labelled the signing of Diogo Jota as a ‘steal’ and feels the move sums up Liverpool’s transfer strategy.
Diogo Jota starred for Liverpool on Sunday as he netted a brace in the 4-0 win at Bournemouth.
The 27-year-old also created Darwin Nunez’s opener and is enjoying an exceptional run of form of late.
The Portuguese star has had a hand in six goals in his last three Premier League games.
Jota continues to be an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad and Jamie Carragher has praised Liverpool for snapping up the forward for £41 million back in 2020.
Carragher says Liverpool have picked up bargain signing in Jota
“He sums up Liverpool’s recruitment,” Carragher told Sky Sports after Liverpool’s win at Bournemouth yesterday. “Over the past five or six years people always say Liverpool’s recruitment is great but it’s, I’m not saying it’s easy, but sometimes there are really good players out there and you go and buy them.
“He’s a player who was in and out of the Wolves team. When he was bought a lot of people were scratching their heads thinking I don’t get that.
“But Liverpool looked at the underlying numbers, where he took his shots from, how many times he took shots, his Xg. All these things Liverpool looked into and now you look at it and think that’s a steal.”
You’d have to agree with Carragher’s comments on Jota as he continues to provide in the final third for Liverpool.
The 27-year-old has endured a tough year when it comes to injuries, having missed a large chunk of the last campaign with a thigh injury.
He was also ruled out for the majority of December this season. But Jota seems to be rediscovering his best form recently.
Liverpool have made a habit of picking up Premier League rivals’ best players during Klopp’s tenure, with the likes of Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk proving to be huge success stories at Anfield.
Jota has been a solid performer for Liverpool since his switch from Wolves and Klopp can always rely on the forward when it comes to his work in the final third.
