Former Liverpool player says he was tricked into thinking he had Covid-19.
John Aldridge, who scored 63 goals in 104 games for Manchester United and also played for Real Sociedad, was the victim of his wife’s abuse.
The former Republic of Ireland international took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to reveal that his other half had bribed him.
He did a rapid COVID antigen test and a line appeared next to the letter C. That means a 65-year-old man tested negative. But his wife convinced him that the line next to the C stood for “COVID.” The two lines actually indicate a positive test result, but Aldridge was none the wiser. He quarantined himself for no apparent reason as a precaution and said the moral of the story was “never trust your wife”. Aldridge wrote: “She told me she had COVID-19 four days ago…”C is for Covid John”, I’ve been self-isolating and not in bars all week. Yes, I went out today! Never trust your wife. His post quickly went viral and has been viewed over 229,000 times on X.Self-isolation is not currently a legal requirement, but NHS advice recommends avoiding contact for five days after a negative test or from the first day of symptoms. Aldridge was on the fun side but made up for it by going to the pub to watch Liverpool travel to Luton in the final at 4.30pm on Sunday.Liverpool could move up to second if they win their last four games in all competitions. Aldridge maintains close links with Liverpool and is chairman of the club’s Forever Reds players’ association.
