Liverpool faced Manchester City at the Etihad in their final Premier League game, the first team to do so in 2023. This left Pep Guardiola’s 23 appearances short of the all-time English record (set by Sunderland in the 19th century).

This was very satisfying for FSG, who had to find ways to keep Guardiola fighting for years.
