Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young will replace Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo in this weekend’s NBA All-Star Game, the NBA announced. Antetokounmpo is out with a left calf strain and hasn’t played since February 2.
This will be Young’s fourth All-Star selection, and he’ll play on Team Chuck in the new pickup-style event, which will feature four teams and three games of a mini-tournament in San Francisco on Sunday evening. TNT hosts Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal each drafted teams last week, with Candace Parker being the honorary general manager of the Rising Stars team.
Young is averaging 23.5 points in 49 games for the 25-28 Hawks, who are in ninth place in the East. His 11.4 assists per game lead the league.
Young was an All-Star last season, as well as in his sophomore season in 2020 and in 2022.
As for Antetokounmpo, this was his ninth All-Star selection, and he’s expected to return for the Bucks after the All-Star break.
