Trent Alexander-Arnold said he “could face disciplinary action” for his comments after Manchester City’s draw.Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold could face disciplinary action from the FA for his comments following the 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
The Reds defender equalized in the second half with a 20-yard shot past Ederson and was named Sky Sports Man of the Match. The result lifted Liverpool into third place, but the general consensus was that Jurgen Klopp’s side could take a point against a team that could be title rivals this season.
Alexander-Arnold celebrated his goal by silencing the City fans. When asked why he did what he did after the game, he simply replied, “It was fun.”But according to The Sun, the Liverpool defender could be in trouble with the FA after admitting he deliberately staged the celebration in front of City fans.
According to the rules of the game, any player must receive a yellow card if they are found to be making “gestures or actions in a provocative, comical or rude manner” towards a member of the public.
But referee Chris Kavanagh did not book the Liverpool defender’s celebration and it is unclear whether he saw it. However, The Sun said Alexander-Arnold could be warned about his future behavior if the FA takes any action, adding that there have been no calls for specific sanctions since the incident took place.
The 25-year-old spoke to Sky Sports in his post-match interview about the game itself: “We played a lot of good minutes against City and we lost the game. So, honestly, it’s a good thing that we came here and thought about it.
“That’s what our team needs. Even if we don’t play well against the champions (who won the treble last year and are top of the league), it gives us confidence that if we don’t play well and get points, that’s what we will do. ‘ I did the right thing.”
