With Liverpool appointing a new manager this summer, the last thing it needs is to lose any key players. The trio of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will soon be in the final year of their existing contracts. Getting them to renew has to be one of the top priorities for Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes.

It is being reported by Football Insider that Alexander-Arnold will receive a ‘bigger’ deal than the two veterans. Given his age that makes sense, but it will still mark another ascension in an already stellar career for the homegrown hero.

Liverpool supporters will be delighted to know that the number 66 has no intention of leaving for Real Madrid, as noted in the above story. “Sources have told Football Insider that while Alexander-Arnold is flattered by links with the European giants, he has made staying at his boyhood club his number-one priority.” That sounds good to us.

The supposed fall out dates back to the Cup of Nations earlier this year. Salah suffered an injury and returned to Liverpool for treatment, which did not impress Hassan (who at that point, it must be noted, was not the manager).

It has been claimed that “the Hassan-Salah rift is unlikely to go away any time soon given the manager’s fiery temper and his pride.”

The majority of Reds fans would not be disappointed if Salah retired from international football, but while there has been no indication that this is on the cards, if he and the manager remain at odds then it could be a possibility. We will be watching this unfold with great interest.
