Unfortunately, that was the last I saw of him for several weeks.Pep Lijnders has confirmed that Alexander-Arnold will be out for at least three weeks after injuring his knee in north London ahead of tomorrow’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham. A 25-year-old man suffered a collateral ligament tear due to knee hyperextension.”It’s a big blow,” Lijnders told a news conference while reporting on Jurgen Klopp. He brings a lot of dynamism, is always decisive and, even in bad moments, throws the ball where he can make a difference. “Without him, we have to find a new dynamic because he made our game more flexible, so it’s a big blow. It will be about three weeks, hopefully with a winter break in between.”To put it mildly, it’s awesome. Lijnders is outstanding for Liverpool and with Alexander-Arnold’s impact on the pitch, a new dynamic needs to be found. Mohamed Salah’s absence from the AFCON will be seen as a big blow for the Reds, but Alexander-Arnold’s injury could be an even bigger blow. If it is difficult to replace Salah with the front three, it is realistically impossible to replace Alexander-Arnold with the defence.
Nobody offers the level of creativity that the academy graduate offers at right-back and whatever you think of his hybrid role, Liverpool now have the space to fill both positions simultaneously. The scary part is that defenses are now stretched to their limits.
This is news that no Liverpool fan wants to hear. Any new injury would be welcome at this point, but Trent Alexander-Arnold is an exception. The Reds vice-captain has been in fine form this season and his outstanding skills were on display again as Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup at home on Sunday.
“He was one of our most important players.
