Alexander-Arnold will make his 300th appearance for Liverpool on Monday night against Chelsea. Liverpool play Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Anfield in their first Premier League game since Jurgen Klopp’s surprise announcement.
Vice-captain Alexander-Arnold could return to the starting line-up tonight as United look to maintain their lead. The right-back picked up a knee injury in the FA Cup third round tie with Arsenal at the start of January and missed both the Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham and the match against Bournemouth.
However, he returned from the bench in last weekend’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Norwich and is expected to return to the starting line-up on Wednesday. If he performs as expected, it will be a special opportunity for the 25-year-old, who will mark his 300th appearance in all competitions for Liverpool.
The Reds’ number 66, who has been at the club since the age of six, made his first-team debut in 2016/17 and became a regular under Klopp the following season. He became the player who redefined what it means. It means it’s fully recovered.
Of his 299 appearances for Liverpool, 216 were in the Premier League and 58 in Europe. To put Alexander-Arnold’s milestone into context, his 299 was more than Gian Molby (292), Sammy Lee (295) and Michael Owen (297), only two other players to do so, according to the site- the club official.
Only two young Reds players have ever reached 300 games: Ian Rush and Emlyn Hughes. Both club legends are in Liverpool’s all-time top six, the former with a career total of 660 and the latter with 665.
Alexander-Arnold may need another seven seasons to match those figures, but he cannot be overlooked as he ends his career as one of the club’s most enduring legends. In the 2023/24 season, the England international provided eight assists and scored two goals in all competitions.
